The Kountry Style LLC, a Jamaican take out restaurant, officially opened its doors for business on Saturday, February 16. The restaurant, located at 198-18 Linden Blvd. in St. Albans, NY, is offering a Jamaican style menu featuring traditional meals which includes, ackee and salt fish, curried goat, escoveitch/steamed fish, jerk chicken and goat head soup (otherwise called, “mannish” water).

The restaurant is a joint venture between Financial Analyst, Hope Wilson and Event Manager, Valsey Bartley.

“My business partner and I wanted to bring to our customers the Jamaican flavors we were taught in our grandmother’s kitchens”, noted Bartley after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Wilson is from South Manchester, Bartley and chef, Steve Thomas, are from Clarendon – two rural sections of the island.

“That is why we chose the name ‘Kountry Style’ for the restaurant,” continued Bartley.

Kountry Style is currently opened from Mondays to Saturdays with the breakfast menu presently available on Saturdays only.

“We will eventually operate seven days a week with breakfast every morning,” Ms. Wilson said.

“We plan to do the best for our customers with excellent customer service and quality meals,” she added.

In addition to regular meals, the restaurant offers catering services for all occasions.  It also has a room that can accommodate up to 20 persons for small and intimate affairs.

The day-long, grand opening was a festive affair with patrons getting a taste of the menu and offering their best wishes.
