New York based Jamaican charity Children of Jamaica Outreach (COJO) Inc., has joined the list of charitable organizations turning to crowdfunding as a means of raising funds to carry out its mission of helping the less fortunate.  As the organization prepares for its annual charity mission in September, COJO is turning to social media to harness the power of this tool to meet its fundraising goals.
COJO Founder Gary M. Williams noted that with an increasing number of charitable organizations competing for limited resources, COJO is seeking to take advantage of the available technology to help the organization carry out its objectives. “It has now become extremely difficult for us to satisfactorily meet the growing needs of our children who need us now more than ever to help them to live meaningful and productive lives, and we are confident that this latest initiative will help us reach our targets,” Williams noted.
Members of the COJO Executive will travel to Jamaica this September where they will present scholarships to deserving wards of the state who have enrolled in a tertiary institution.  The organization is seeking to raise $50,000 of its $65,000 target by September 30, 2014 in an effort to provide tuition, school supplies, health care, clothing, food and appliances for some 1,000 deserving boys and girls.

COJO is a nonprofit organization that seeks to undertake projects which support and give relief to disadvantaged children in Jamaica and the United States.  Founded in 1994 by Gary M. Williams, the organization’s core values are built on the foundation that children are our greatest asset and must be provided with services that will improve their existing conditions. COJO was established on the principle of creating opportunities through empowerment and wide-ranging social development programs.

For more than a decade, the volunteer-driven organization has supported a number of institutions in Jamaica and the United States.  Among them the Alpha Boys’ Home, Glenhope Place of Safety, Granville Child Care Facility, Marigold Child Care Centre, Maxfield Park Children’s Home, Musgrave Girls’ Home, Summerfield Boys Home, Muirton Boy’s Home and Windsor Girls’ Home in Jamaica; and in New York, the Jamaica, Queens YMCA and Leaf of Life, just to name a few.
Our contributions to education and healthcare have helped to make us one of the leading grassroots community support groups in New York and Jamaica. This has been made possible by our caregivers through our various collaborations locally and nationally, who have touched the lives of hundreds of disadvantaged children – whether they faced an urgent need for food or clothing, a devastating disease or required improvement in their quality of life.
Help us make a difference in the lives of our children…the future and pledge your support of $10, $50, $100 or $500. No amount is too small. We’re counting on your support.
