New York 5K Winners Head To Reggae Marathon

Damion Walker and Evelyn Abiola both snagged gold in the male and female categories at the recently held Team Jamaica Bickle/Awesome Power 5K, held at Baisley Park, Queens, New York. Both claimed the ultimate prize, automatic entry to the Reggae Marathon, December 3, 2011 in Negril, Jamaica, coupled with air fare and hotel accommodation.

With everyone gunning for the two top spots, runners, walkers and race enthusiasts, gathered for the inaugural event and the day did not disappoint.

Walker, finished first in a time of 18.02.5 in the male category; 2nd place male went to Marc Smith, 18.21.7 with 3rd place going to Armando Wawsom, 18.27.1.

Abiola, topped the women in 18.59.5 with Elizabeth Perez 2nd in 19.55.3, and Charlen Bossut, 3rd in 20.57.2.

The winner of the mile run-male, was Leo Kearns-Stanley; the female, winner was Nia Lundy.

Anique Bailey walked to victory in the 5k.

Several awards were handed out in the various age divisions of all race categories.

“Consider this our dress rehearsal,” says Irwine Clare, Snr., “next year will be bigger and better. We have learnt a lot on this first outing. It is a good thing for us. It is a great thing for the community as we strive to strengthen our organization(s ) on behalf of our athletes, our ambassadors.”
