Black Music Promotions through the committed effort of supporting organizations,  will launch it’s “NO TO GUNS! YES TO LIFE” International Awareness Campaign Against GUN VIOLENCE 2010, at 12:00 P.M. in the Amphie Theater, at the Portmore Mall in St. Catherine Jamaica.

This campaign was initiated in 2004, and is now supported by over 30, 000 disc jockeys / sound systems / radio stations / Cable networks / Magazines / internet sites, to maximize the awareness internationally against GUN VIOLENCE.

This issue is one we consider to be more dangerous than (A.I.D.S.), as anyone that has contracted the (A.I.D.S.) disease, is given a short time to live, but the shot from a gun is immediate death! GUN VIOLENCE, is responsible for more than Three (3) Million (3,000,000) lives a year.  Campaign songs and music video, to be aired are   “GUN OR LIFE”  / “EVERY DAY IS A GUNSHOT”  by JOSHUA, and  ‘RUFF TIMES” by “Jah Mason” & “Nico D”,  from January 25th to February 6th 2010.

2009 was the bloodiest in Jamaica’s history. 1,680 killings in ’09 highest in country’s history, in December-Christmas weekend 17 persons were killed. According to statistics released by the Jamaican Police, 1,680 murders were recorded in 2009, a four per cent increase over the 1,618 homicides reported in 2008. October proved to be the deadliest month last year with a total 177 murders reported. There were 155 murders in May while December rounded out the top three with 152 murders.

Let not our love ones, life go in vain. How long should we be silent, and allow this to continue, until they slay another innocent child. This concern us all, and illegal guns and gun violence NEEDS TO BE STOPPED, NOW!

We believe the start of the year 2010, is quite appropriate for this message. Small white ribbons, in the shape of a cross will be worn as a symbol of peace throughout the world, within the period to complement the songs and video, that will be aired during that week.
Black Music Promotions and it’s members, believes that fighting crime is not the sole responsibility of the Police, but the citizens as well, and only through collaborated/ committed effort, this can be achieved.  It is quite unfortunate for the citizens of Jamaica, to let a few bad seeds, to tarnish the success of our NATIONAL HEROES and other public figure heads, who have toiled so hard for the freedom and development we now have.
