RawHTML:On Saturday, June 21, 2008, ODPEM will once again put on its annual Hurricane Preparedness Expo at the Portmore Mall, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This Expo has become somewhat of a tradition both for the ODPEM, the Portmore communities and businesses in and around the Mall, with 2008 being our seventh year there! The community of Portmore was once again selected because of the captured audience that exists there, being the largest residential community in the island.

This year’s Expo will include the participation of over 20 exhibitors, both from the government and private sectors, all showcasing products and services to get you better prepared for the hurricane season and any other type of disaster, while the ODPEM will sensitize residents and businesses about disaster preparedness, reduction, management and other related issues. The following is our list of exhibitors for this year’s Expo:

The Hurricane Preparedness Expo is just one of many activities throughout June, Disaster Preparedness Month 2008, aimed at increasing the general awareness of the Jamaican public to the importance of hurricane and general disaster preparedness. In particular, the main objective of the Expo is to sensitize our various communities about hurricanes and other hazards that Jamaica is prone, and also particular hazards that makes Portmore particularly vulnerable. This awareness must ultimately result in the implementation of more active disaster preparedness measures to effectively reduce our risks to all hazards.

The theme for Disaster Preparedness Month is “Disasters are a Constant Reality … Be Prepared for any Eventuality!”

All are invited to attend and participate in what will be a very informative and entertaining day. We especially welcome the media to join us and cover this event.
