Amidst the growing controversy surrounding their Patois Bible project, the Bible Society of the West Indies continues their drive to help those persons severely affected by the passing of hurricane Dean in August 2007.

Moved by the plight of those negatively affected by the effects of Dean and the subsequent heavy rains that fell, in February 2008, they, along with the support of a sister Bible Society, donated to ODPEM approximately $490,000 towards providing assistance and support to those whom the Organization identified as needing this aid. Additionally, the Society also provided Bibles and other scriptures worth approximately $385,000.

The ODPEM purchased several hundred sheets of zinc with the Bible Society’s monetary donation and will, on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, hand-over these to 18 identified beneficiaries. This will take place at New Budget Supplies on Hagley Park Road.

Rev. Courtney A. Stewart and Rt. Rev. Stanley G. Clarke, General Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Directors respectively of the Bible Society of the West Indies, will be there to formally hand-over the sheets of zinc to the beneficiaries.
