Digicel is bringing the excitement of the Olympics to cricket fans this Sunday when they will get the chance to watch the 100m finals at Sabina Park during the second test match of the Digicel Series between the West Indies and New Zealand.
In this historic moment where cricket meets track and field, players and fans will break from watching from the test match to tune in to the Olympic 100m finals on the main screen. The Caribbean’s sprinting talent will be on display, including Digicel Brand Ambassador and the 100m world record-holder, Usain Bolt, who will be defending his title as the Olympic 100m champion and the World’s Fastest Man.
As the biggest supporter of sports across the region, Digicel sponsors a number of sporting initiatives throughout the Caribbean. These span national sports teams and associations and individuals across sports like football, cricket, swimming, athletics. Digicel also supports Special Olympics across the majority of its markets. Similar to the ‘Run to London’ campaign with Usain Bolt, the Digicel Test Series also gives Caribbean people an opportunity to ‘rally’ around their athletes by celebrating their achievements.
West Indies star cricketer, Digicel Brand Ambassador and friend of Usain Bolt, Chris Gayle, says he is looking forward to watching his fellow Caribbean athletes shine in the 100m finals.
“Sunday is going to be a great day for me. To stop and watch the Olympic 100m finals while we host New Zealand for our second test will be an amazing experience for me as a Jamaican athlete.
He continues; “We work hard as athletes to be the best in our respective sport. I’m excited to see what the my fellow Jamaicans will do in the 100m finals and, with Digicel giving cricket fans and players the chance to be a part of the Olympics in this way, I am even more inspired to do my best for this test.”
Leading up to the Olympics, Digicel and Official Olympic Partner, Samsung, have been galvanising support for Usain Bolt and all the Caribbean athletes who are representing their countries at the Olympics through the ‘Run to London’ campaign. The campaign saw 500 customers being part of Digicel’s groundbreaking advertisement with Usain Bolt, as well as winning Samsung products – including 42” flat screen TVs, 4G-capable Samsung SIII handsets and tablets.
