On this day in Jamaican history:  Princess Margaret played a key role in Jamaica’s independence in 1962; she represented the Queen at the independence ceremony in Kingston on August 5, 1962, and addressed the first independent Jamaican parliament, before taking to the dance floor with Sir Alexander Bustamante, the country’s newly elected prime minister.
