This day in Jamaican History – On March 23, 2007, Jamaican Barrington Irving stepped into a single-engine plane dubbed the “Inspiration” and embarked on a 26800-mile, round-the-world flight. Irving (born November 11, 1983) is the youngest person to pilot a plane around the world solo. He is also the first black person and first Jamaican to accomplish this feat. Irving was born in Jamaica, and grew up in the Miami, Florida. His journey took 97 days and included 27 stops around the world. (See our interview with Barrington Irving – http://bit.ly/gweaYp )
