Overwhelming Community Response as Big Stage Finals Looms

Festival Queen and Festival Song Finalists to be Featured

With an already overwhelming response to the community search of the Big Stage Competition, entrants are gearing up to bring their best to the parish finals in an effort to make it to the National Finals on Sunday, July 20 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre.

The community search has been completed in all parishes and the competition hits the road on Friday, July 4 in Hanover and St. Mary to search for the top two performers from each parish for the National Finals. The top ten finalists from the Jamaica Gospel and Festival Song Competitions will be featured at the Big Stage parish finals.

On Saturday, July 5, St. James and St. Ann will host its Parish Finals which will then move to Trelawny on Sunday, July 6. The Show will head to Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth and Kingston on Friday, July 11 and to St. Thomas, Manchester and Portland on Saturday, July 12. The final shows will be in St. Catherine and Clarendon on Sunday, July 13 with all shows starting at 7:00 p.m.

Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Programme Coordinator for the Big Stage, David Reid, said, “the response to the Big Stage has been encouraging and overwhelming noting that Jamaicans are appreciating that the competition caters to talents in the areas of Dance, Singing, Dee Jay, Stand-up Comedy, Novelty Acts, Magic, Signing and Miming.  Jamaicans are eager to cease this opportunity to hone their talents and be exposed nationally.”

The competition, which has evolved from the JCDC Popular Cultural Expressions/Pop and Variety Contest and Star Search competitions last produced in 2003, is being held as one of the Jamaica Festival activities. After the finalists have been selected for the National Finals they will participate in Technical Workshops, which will help to improve their talents.
