Pausing From Its “Around The World Race”, The Jamaica Lightning Bold Yacht Kicks Off Caribbean Week In New York, June 4, 2010

WHAT: The Jamaica Lightning Bolt, one of 10 yachts competing in the “Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race”, will bring an early taste of “Caribbean Week in New York” today, Friday, June 4th, as it takes place in a special fleet blessing, officially welcoming all of the clipper yachts to NYC.  

Named after three-time Jamaican Olympic Gold Medalist Usain Bolt, also known as “The World’s Fastest Man”, Jamaica Lightning Bolt is among a fleet of internationally sponsored ocean racing yachts participating in the 10-month, 35,000-mile ocean race around the world which began in England on September 13, 2009 and will return there on July 17, 2010.

The yacht will set off again during a special fleet parade on Sunday, June 6th, kicking off “Caribbean Week in NY”, a series of festivities celebrating the culture and flavor of the region, beginning Monday June 7th.
