Penn Relays Athletes From Jamaica Feted In NYC, April 24, 2012

More than fifty athletes, representing the cream of Jamaica’s junior athletics program along with their coaches and school administrators were feted by Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) at a Luncheon at The Dream Restaurant in Queens, NY, on Tuesday afternoon, April 24.

Irwine Clare, Sr. was on hand to welcome the athletes representing five (5) of the competing schools at this year’s 118th staging of the Penn Relays Carnival (PRC) at the Ben Franklin Field Stadium, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, from Thursday thru’ Saturday, April 26-28.

Also on hand to welcome the athletes were; Rev. Patrick Perrin of the St. John’s United Methodist Church, Queens; Rich Kenah of Global Athletics, organizers of the adidas Grand Prix/NYC-June 9; Louie Grant and Bobby Clarke of Irie Jam Media Group.

First time participant, Fayon Gonzales of St. Jago HS, said that she was looking forward to the competition and to extend the recent dominance of the Jamaican schools in the field events, when she competes in the Discuss (Open) event.

The athletes will be bussed to Philadelphia and be ready for the opening of the PRC on Thursday morning.
