Work is to begin soon at the Princess Margaret Hospital in St. Thomas as the Ministry of Health moves to improve security at the facility.

Portfolio Minister, Hon. Dr. Fenton Ferguson, said that a contract valuing $13.6 million was signed on February 1 to put in perimeter fencing at the hospital. The work is being funded by the National Health Fund (NHF).

The Health Minister, who was addressing a contract signing event for the rehabilitation of the Isaac Barrant Health Centre in Golden Grove, St. Thomas on Thursday, February 7, said that work on the hospital is expected to last approximately eight weeks.

“This has been long in coming and is expected to go a far way towards improving the security of the facility,” he stated.

He also announced that the hospital will be receiving a new x-ray machine, while a new sewerage system has been approved. He further added that preliminary work is underway to expand the Accident and Emergency section of the hospital.

“Developments such as these make me confident that we can be well on our way to achieving our National Development Goal as outlined in Vision 2030, for a healthy people and a healthy environment, as well as to make Jamaica the place of choice to live, work, raise families and do business,” the Minister stated.
