Oil Spill At Petrojam

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is reporting that an oil spill occurred earlier today at PETROJAM. The ODPEM received the call about the spill at 12:14 p.m. PETROJAM reported that a safety valve exploded, spilling oil.

The wind further dispersed the oil in the vicinity of the Fishing Village, which caused damage to boats, engines, fishing nets and clothing, and also spilt onto neighbouring vehicles and some persons.

The PETROJAM is currently conducting an investigation into the spill and clean-up exercises are underway.

The ODPEM is also onsite monitoring the situation. Further updates will be released to the public as the situation demands.
