Prime Minister Bruce Golding has congratulated the Jamaican team on the spectacular and outstanding performance at the just concluded IAAF world championships in Daegu, South Korea.
The Prime Minister said a more fitting climax to the Games could not have been scripted as our men’s 4X 100 metres relay team won the Gold Medal setting a new world record, following on the brilliant performance of our women in winning the Silver medal in the women’s 4×100 metres relay. Mr Golding said all Jamaicans are beaming with pride this morning.
“Yes there were moments of heartbreak but these were just as quickly abandoned with more crowning moments of outstanding triumph by our team members. We are all extremely proud of the team which has made Jamaica finish the World Championships in fourth place with four gold, four silver and one bronze medal.
We look forward to the 2012 Olympics which takes place in the year when we celebrate our 50th anniversary as an independent nation, proud of the achievements of this very small nation and the continued hard work of our people here at home and throughout the Diaspora, as we continue to stamp our mark of greatness as a people in just about every area of endeavour”, Mr Golding concluded.
