Prime Minister Bruce Golding and Chairman of Caricom will be attending next week Wednesday’s (Nov 3) State Funeral for the late Prime Minister of Barbados David Thompson.
Mr. Thompson passed away Saturday morning (Oct 23) at his home in St. Philip. He had been ailing for some months with pancreatic cancer.
In a message in his capacity as Chairman of Caricom and disseminated throughout the region, Mr. Golding said he valued highly the solid, collaborative relationship he had enjoyed with the late Prime Minister as they worked together in their respective lead roles within CARICOM on external trade negotiations and the development of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy.
‘The Caribbean has lost at the young age of 48 one of its most vibrant leaders, the promise which he offered and the hope that he instilled’, Mr. Golding lamented.
Mr. Golding accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Lorna Golding, will leave for Barbados on Monday, November 1. During his absence, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr. Kenneth Baugh, will be in charge of the Government.
Prime Minister Golding returns to the island on Thursday, November 4.
