Jamaica’s PM – Simpson-Miller to visit South Florida – June 23, 2006

Jamaica’s Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller will be guest speaker at a town hall meeting to be held on Friday (June 23) beginning at 6 p.m., at the Steele Auditorium at the Nova Southeastern University in Davie, where she will interact with the Jamaican Diaspora and the broader South Florida community.

The Prime Minister will talk on matters of interest about the development of the Jamaica economy.

This is the first official visit of the Prime Minister to the South Florida area since assuming office in March earlier this year. During her visit, she will participate in several activities in the community.

South Florida is home to more than 300,000 Jamaican nationals in the tri-county area, namely Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.

The Jamaican population is considered the largest foreign-born group in Broward County, one of the fastest growing counties in the USA, while South Florida is considered the fastest growing region of Jamaicans compared to any in the Diaspora.
