My Beloved: “How can I love you again?

When you took my secrets, my heart,

To another, at my expense:

Still, you say, ‘You’re my faithful friend!’

I found out I misunderstood, your nice gesture,

Silence, your complements, in my innocence,

The word—friend, that I, would be your woman,

Wife, lover, companion, confidant— to the very end,

I must forgive you and ask my dearest father,

To forgive me—in my rebel, to help me,

Not to waste my tears, help me face the past,

My false ego, and help my bruised heart to mend.
