Prime Minister, Bruce Golding has called on Christians to become “heart surgeons for Christ” to help transform the society and address the scourge of crime and violence.
The Prime Minister, who was addressing the 65th anniversary conference of the Holiness Christian Church Incorporated on Thursday (Jan. 22) in Ocho Rios, noted that the country was faced with this “terrible scourge, this cancer of crime and violence”.
“The murders that are taking place, it’s almost as if life has no value anymore,” he lamented, noting that the “brutality of some of the murders was indiscriminately visiting itself on little children and women”.
Mr. Golding stated that while the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) “were doing as much as they could to gain the best possible results, the police cannot do it alone, the Government cannot do it alone, because the problem lies not in the hand that holds the gun, but in the heart that controls the hand”.
“The problem cannot be solved until we penetrate that heart to cleanse it of all its unrighteousness,” he stated.
He commended the Holiness Christian Church for 65 years of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, through prayerful witness and fervent worship.
“Even as we celebrate, we must not be unmindful that there is still so much work to be done,” Prime Minister Golding stated.
The two-day conference was held at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort under the theme: ‘Celebrating the Past, Transforming the Present, Impacting the Future’.
