2014 marks our 25th year, being commemorated with a Year-long Celebration of Literary Excellence. Each month will see us featuring individuals whose work is of an outstanding nature and who have made significant contributions to literature.

Tonight, Tuesday, April 29, 2014, we continue this celebration by featuring and highlighting the work of newly-appointed Poet Laureate of Jamaica, Prof. Emeritus Mervyn Morris, O.M.

Prof. Morris is a dedicated writer, scholar, educator and critic. He has produced several collections of poetry, including The Pond (1973), Shadowboxing (1979), Examination Centre (1993), On Holy Week (1993), Vestiges (1996) and I Been There, Sort Of: New and Selected Poems (2006). He has edited numerous anthologies as well as written and contributed to scholarly publications. He is the recipient of the Order of Merit from the Government of Jamaica and was this year appointed Poet Laureate of Jamaica (2014-2017). Prof. Morris, as teacher and writer, represents a key, defining voice on our literary landscape, an authority in the field and has been a source both of inspiration and guidance for generations of readers, writers and literary scholars.

We consider it a privilege to host and celebrate Prof. Morris and to highlight his work as part of our 25th Anniversary celebrations.
