2012 Music Lineup:
The Wailers
Together with Bob Marley, the Wailers have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide. In England alone, they’ve notched up over twenty chart hits, including seven Top 10 entries. Outside of their groundbreaking work with Marley, the Wailers have also played or performed with international acts like Sting, the Fugees, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, and Alpha Blondy, as well as reggae legends such as Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and Burning Spear. As the greatest living exponents of Jamaica’s reggae tradition, the Wailers have completed innumerable other tours, playing to an estimated 24 million people across the globe. They have also been the first reggae band to tour new territories on many occasions, including Africa and the Far East.
Hieroglyphics
Founded in 1997 in Oakland, CA, Hiero Imperium Records is Del The Funky Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Domino, and the Souls of Mischief, made up of A-Plus, Opio, Phesto and Tajai.
Coming off waves of success from earlier releases like Souls’ ’93 Til Infinity, the Hiero crew had already established themselves as a name in underground hip-hop, and soon released their first collective project Third Eye Vision. Since then the Hiero team has been thriving in the hip-hop world, releasing a number of projects within the label as well as branching out for collaborations with the likes of Jurassic 5, George Clinton, Dilated Peoples, Q-Tip, Xzibit and Gorillaz.
The Supervillains
Hailing from sub-tropical Orlando FL, the Supervillains showcase their love of reggae music while blending the sweet southern vocal harmonies of band co-founders Dominic Maresco (drums) and Scott “Skart” Suldo (guitars) with huge, ground-moving bass lines provided by bassist Daniel Grundorf. Furious instrumental solos and keyboard melodies from Tom “T-Rex” Moulton compliment the combo’s penchant for formulating unique arrangements, drawing from a wide range of obvious influences. Their set-list keeps the listener on their feet as the band bounces around from up-tempo ska, roots reggae, rock hooks, and shout-along choruses with subject matter that pretty much covers the bases: women and partying.
Vokab Kompany
“A sound whose genre goes something like; hip-hop, soul, electro, funk. You have two MC’s who’s charged sped-up lyrical flows; made to sound effortless…seamless synergy with their voices and their lyrics are playfully vivacious and positive… layered with creative electro beats. ” Sam Dorman, NBC San Diego.
Kayavibe
Kayavibe is a post ska reggae rock band hailing from South Central Florida. Their mix of South Florida charm, combined with the catchy hooks and smooth delivery of vocalist Brandon Gibbons, give Kayavibe a sound that is sure to get lodged in your brain. After finding a home at Rah Rah Rah Records (the Supervillains label) and recording the self titled EP with Greg Shields (Ballyhoo!’s producer) and spending time at #2 on the itunes reggae charts, the band is hitting the road and not looking back! With a West Coast tour under their belt and an East Coast tour in the works for Summer 2012 it’s easy to see why good things keep coming from the Kayavibe camp!
Nosotros
Nosotros seamlessly combines Latin genres and rhythms with elements of Rock and Jazz, creating an original sound that is unmistakably Nosotros. But M.E. Schenck of Hyperactive Music Magazine may have interpreted their sound best by saying “Nosotros’ music is not to be explained, it is to be felt in the pit of our souls.”
The award-winning ensemble began as a guitar trio in 1994 and was based in the southern New Mexico town of Las Cruces and gained an almost immediate following. During this time Nosotros successfully self-produced two albums, “Palomo” and “Pico,” both of which received excellent reviews and recognition.
