The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County presents REGGAE JAM featuring legendary bands THIRD WORLD & INNER CIRCLE, Award-winning reggae pioneers make their Arsht Center debut with a special tribute to Jacob “Killer” Miller!

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County is proud to announce REGGAE JAM, a one-night-only 2011-2012 World Music Series concert featuring performances by the legendary, award-winning reggae bands THIRD WORLD and  INNER CIRCLE on February 24, 2012 at 8 p.m.

In celebration of Black History Month in February and the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence in 2012, REGGAE JAM will light up the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall with explosive live stage performances featuring THIRD WORLD’s classic anthems “96 Degrees in the Shade,” “Now That We’ve Found Love,” and “Cool Meditation”; and INNER CIRCLE’s global smash hits “Bad Boys” and “Sweat (A La La La La Long),” among other classic reggae tunes. Local South Florida reggae bands Jahfe, Mixed Culture, The Resolvers, Spred The Dub, Stampede, Roots Shakedown, 4th Dimension and Skafyah – collectively known as the “Reggae Wave” – will open the show. Lance-O of Kulcha Shok Muzik will host the evening.

Tickets range from $25 to $40, and go on sale to Arsht Center members January 2, 2012 and to the general public January 9, 2012. The $40 VIP Ticket includes a post-show meet and greet with THIRD WORLD and INNER CIRCLE, plus a limited edition signed copy of the “Reggae Wave” compilation. “Third World and Inner Circle have become synonymous with reggae music on an international level. These longstanding, iconic bands are known for their seamless fusion of traditional Jamaican sounds and pop music, and are beloved by South Florida’s rich Caribbean community and reggae music fans alike. Reggae Jam makes a brilliant addition to the Adrienne Arsht Center’s World Music Series for 2011-2012,” said M. John Richard, President and CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center.

With their February 24 Arsht Center debut performance, THIRD WORLD makes its much-anticipated return to South Florida, while INNER CIRCLE continues to keep hometown fans on their feet having recently performed at last year’s 18th annual Marley Fest, now known as 9 Mile Music Festival.

Celebrating nearly four decades as pioneers of inspirational reggae music, THIRD WORLD is set to perform their legendary hits and showcase their new studio album, “Patriots,” which features collaborations with Junior Reid, Capleton, Tarrus Riley, and Stephen & Damian Marley. THIRD WORLD was formed in 1973 and has since released a total of 23 albums as well as solo projects from lead singer Bunny Rugs and famed guitarist Stephen Cat Coore. They have received numerous awards, including a New York City Ambassador Award in November 2009 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), the 1986 “United Nations Peace Medal,” 1992 and 1996 Jamaica Music Industry Awards for Best Show Band. The band’s hit singles also include “Dancing on the Floor,” “Try Jah Love” (written by Stevie Wonder), “Sense of Purpose,” “Forbidden Love,” “Reggae Ambassador,” “Committed,” and “Reggae Party.” The group has worked and collaborated with top acts such as the Jackson Five, Bob Marley and The Wailers, and Stevie Wonder.

Sharing the bill are the official “Bad Boys of Reggae” – INNER CIRCLE. Born in Jamaica, based in Miami, and adored around the globe, this Grammy Award-winning quintet is responsible for some of the most recognizable reggae grooves today. As one of the world’s most respected reggae bands, INNER CIRCLE has a long string of successes stretching back to the mid-70s as well as recent jams from their latest record “State Of Da World.” The group’s brand of pop-oriented reggae beats and high-energy live performances will make for a special evening celebrating the sweet sounds of Jamaica.
