Ka’Ja Johnson—a New York based journalist who has covered numerous Caribbean festivals at home and in the Diaspora, has landed a plush assignment working with HIPHOPWORLD.com—as a leading reporter for both print and visual media.
“I grew up in Hip-Hop! It’s my culture. It’s how I identify with everything else that goes on around me,” says Johnson.
While working closely and consistently with COMCAST Media, BET-J, MTV2, JUMPOFF.TV, ZYNC/CIN TV and now HIPHOPWORLD.com, Ka’Ja has been able to pioneer, hands-on experience with education—making her an ultimate hustler.
“I always knew that education would be the foundation of my know-how but to be so hands on— that is, actually going out there and getting the experience set me atop of the corner stone. Now I can move swiftly—with confidence,” she noted.
When asked, why she reverted back to reporting on Hip-Hop culture—and if it were true that she is no longer covering reggae projects Ka’Ja said.
“You see, that’s the misconception right there! Hip-Hop came out of reggae! Think about it, DJ Kool Herc came to the Bronx doing the same thing he was doing in Jamaica…DJ’ing. So if anything, I feel like I have been chosen to bridge the gap!”
And regarding her not reporting on reggae anymore, Ka’Ja said, “Actually, I do still report a lots on reggae—in fact, I just interviewed Rayvon for his breakout album, RAYVON—as I love music as a whole! Music is inspired by music, so for me to have to choose between [any] genres seems…well— impossible.”
As a writer/reporter for HIPHOPWORLD.com, Ka’Ja will be writing articles, doing on-camera reporting, as well as exploring joint ventures!
“HIPHOPWORLD.com is a great opportunity and partnership. I get to express myself as a writer; report to the masses and still evolve as a business woman” she said.
“I’ve always wanted the opportunity to bring the two worlds [Hip-Hop & Reggae] together and now HIPHOPWORLD.com will set the groundwork—allowing me to do just that!”
