We write to request your monetary donations on behalf of our Jamaican & Caribbean athletes participating at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, which will take place, April 24-26, 2014.
Since 1994, our organization Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) has played an active role in the development and care of athletes from across Jamaica and the Caribbean who compete at these Relays. Our Hospitality Initiative has been the anchor for these athletes, during their week-long stay. In fact, through our efforts more of them are able to travel to these relays thanks to the sponsorship we provide, which reduces the cost to both the families and schools. As a result, over 650 athletes and coaches benefit from the provision of meals, ground transportation, medical and chiropractic care, among other services. Many have gone on to US Colleges and stellar careers in the track and field world, among them: Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Yohan Blake, Veronica Campbell-Brown, and Warren Weir.
Our Sponsorship Provides:
Approximately 3,000 meals each day;
Ground transportation: airport to hotel; daily shuttle to the stadium;
Group discounts for approximately 1000 room nights at team hotel(s);
Over $20,000 in subsidies to defray the cost of hotel accommodation;
Top-notch medical and chiropractic care for the athletes.
Of course none of our efforts would be possible, without the warmth, generosity, and positive outlook of the wonderful donors and organizations who appreciate the impact of our program. Our massive operations require extensive fundraising and charitable contributions from corporate Jamaica and the Diaspora. We ask for your gift to help sustain this program and continue to write history with us. Please join us in providing the resources needed to make their attendance and successful participation possible.
Our effort is two-fold; to foster a greater sense of community around these athletes but also to encourage the community to contribute and join us hand in hand, doing whatever they can to preserve this all important program in the face of economic challenges. We would be grateful if you could indicate your contribution by Friday, April 11!
The Penn Relays is the longest uninterrupted collegiate track meet in the country and is the largest track event (outside of the Olympics), that attracts over 22,000 athletes primarily from the northeast United States and the Caribbean; countries that include : Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Bahamas, Barbados, St Vincent & The Grenadines and Grenada. Our athletes and coaches have benefitted from scholarships and other engagements to top colleges and universities throughout the United States, as a result of their participation. For fifty years, they have represented their country and respective schools with pride at these events, and have been outstanding contributors to the quality and success of the competition.
On behalf of our student athletes, we thank you wholeheartedly and remain grateful for your support. We look forward to welcoming you at the games, Thursday, April 24 thru Saturday, April 26.
Team Jamaica Bickle is a 501c 3 organization, registered in the state of New York. All donations are tax deductible as permitted by the IRS. Help us maintain “the Winning Tradition” your contribution is an investment that will ensure such.
