The world has undergone drastic changes since March of 2020. The new “normal” now includes working from home, classrooms in the living room, and meetings by zoom. Responding to social guidelines restricting in-person social gatherings, the Jamaica Organization of New Jersey has planned an epic, virtual Independence Party and Fundraiser.
Forced to cancel their annual in-person fundraising events. The JON-J team rallied and made plans that would not jeopardize the health and safety of patrons, guests, or members. The All White Virtual Independence Party and Fundraiser on Saturday, August 29, 2020, will feature National Icon, the Jamaican “King of Comedy,” Oliver Samuels. Best known for his popular television series Oliver At Large Oliver has been delighting Jamaican audiences since he made his breakthrough performance in the Pantomime Music Boy.
JON-J sees the virtual event as a chance to reach a far wider audience and to share the works of other artistes such as well-known Jamaican playwright Debra Erhardt, who will write and perform a new dramatic piece for the fundraiser.
JON-J President Jazz Clayton-Hunt indicated her anticipation for the upcoming event “People are finding new ways to cope with social distancing. It has had the delightful and unexpected result of bringing us even closer together. There are no physical barriers preventing anyone from attending this event from anywhere in the world,” said Ms. Clayton-Hunt. “This is an opportunity for Jamaicans and lovers of Jamaica worldwide to show solidarity and unite to effect real change that will impact educational outcomes for young Jamaicans at home and in the diaspora. We will also prove that you can have a great party online.”
Businesses should call for sponsorship opportunities and a chance to be featured online during this exciting virtual event, which will be well attended by Jamaicans from around the world.
