The Board and members of the Society For The Advancement Of The Caribbean Diaspora (SACD) and invited guests will honor Entrepreneur Colette Cyrus-Burnette (Trinidadian heritage),CEO, NY Super Wings and Patrick Maitland (Jamaican Heritage), publisher, Street Hype Newspaper for their contribution to the Caribbean Diaspora, the Caribbean and the United States of America at its Annual Awards Dinner Gala. The event will be held on November 17,2012 at the Brooklyn Campus of the Long Island University (Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues).
Colette Cyrus-Burnette will receive SACD’s Community Service and Visionary Award and Patrick Maitland, SACD’s Community Service and Media Award.
The theme for the event is “Celebrating Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago 50 th Independence and Progress”. The proceeds from this event will benefit SACD’s Scholarship Fund for economically disadvantaged Caribbean-American students.
Starting June 2013, it is the Society’s intention to give out two scholarships per year totaling $1000. These scholarships will be given to either undergraduate college students or trade schoolstudents. Entertainment will include an exciting fashion show coordinated by cosmetologist Deon Seale, a raffle, and special prizes and surprises! Music for dancing will be provided by Shockwave Sounds. The Gala is set to begin at 7:00pm with a Cocktail Hour, Dinner, Awards and Entertainment to commence at 8:00 pm.
