Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen has commended members of the Scout Association, for their invaluable contribution in helping to shape the lives of many young Jamaicans.

“In Jamaica, the Scout Association is an organisation that continues to provide several young men with strategic emotional and motivational support, while creating opportunities for growth and learning,” the Governor-General said.

He was addressing the Scout Association of Jamaica Founder’s Day Service, held at the St. Ann’s Bay Parish Church on Sunday, February 21, to celebrate the organisation’s 100 years of existence in the country.

“Many Jamaicans had their characteristics shaped and moulded by the values inculcated in them through the Scout Movement. Today, they are helping to build the nation on the values of respect, discipline, kindness and honesty, and undoubtedly owe a debt of gratitude to scouting,” he said.

Focusing on the Scout’s Oath which promotes duty to God and country, duty to other people and duty to self, the Governor-General said that by encouraging the youth to observe the Scout’s Oath, “the Scout Association of Jamaica has filled a significant vacuum in the lives of many youth and has encouraged them to believe that with hard work and commitment, they can achieve their goals.”

He congratulated the Association on its milestone, and urged them to diligently seek new opportunities and avenues for the promotion of family values, harmony among all people, self reliance and independent thinking among the youth and in the wider society.
