Shirley Chisholm Unbossed & Unbowed - A Tribute in Celebration of Women’s History Month
March is dedicated to the contributions of women in history and to empower the next generation of women.  No woman has played a more vital role in American history than Shirley Chisholm. To honor her memory, The Merl Grove High School Past Students’ Association NY Chapter Inc will host its inaugural Virtual Women’s History Month Caribbean Celebration with a presentation of “Shirley Chisholm: Unbossed & Unbowed”, a digital solo show performance of her life. This event takes place on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at 6:00 pm. We invite you to join us!

“We celebrate Women’s History Month to remind us of the exceptional achievements and influences of women ” says Sharon Wilson President of the NY Chapter. “The celebration of each milestone achieved and uncovering of the enormous history of women from the Caribbean or of Caribbean descent in our communities, it’s clear to say that we all benefit. Thus, there would be no Kamla Harris if not for Shirley Chisholm’s groundbreaking role as a politician and activist.”

Shirley Chisholm: Unbossed & Unbowed”, is a digital 40-minute solo show performed by author and performer Ingrid Griffith. The show tells the story of the first African American woman to win a seat in the U.S. Congress in 1968, and the first woman to run for the presidency of the United States in 1972. The Brooklyn born native of Caribbean parents was on a mission. She called herself “Fighting Shirley” and she is back to tell you what it took then and what it will take now to make a difference.

Ingrid Griffith plays Shirley and eight other characters (including her parents and local/national leaders of the time.)  Unbossed & Unbowed offers a history lesson not found in our textbooks. It needs to be heard.

The event will also include Cultural and Question & Answer segments. Sharon Gordon will be the Mistress of Ceremony and Moderator.
