Sistas of the Soil (SOS), the brain child of Phyllis Beckford-Smith, is a networking coalition for professional and business sistas of Caribbean heritage, who are seeking to connect with other truly empowered Caribbean Sistas. Our mission is develop and promote alternative strategies for educational and career development of all women of the Caribbean; provide scholarship assistance to deserving girls; provide support and social assistance to our seniors in the community; to empower each other, through the sharing of vital information and resources ; and to provide leadership, role models, and mentors for aspiring young women.
Sistas of the Soil presents a unique opportunity for any woman who boasts a Caribbean heritage to be a part of a group of privileged and committed women on a level of uncommon depth, and to participate in an honest, empowered and inspiring sistahood. We come together to build bonds of sistahood through understanding, trust and total commitment. As sistas, we can use our relationships, connections, opportunities and resources to assist others while working in collaboration to promote social change in our communities and the world. We are building a healthy, authentic and mutually respectful intergenerational sistahood. After all, what would life be like if we could unleash all that we have and all that we are, on behalf of all the people in our lives and those we hope to adopt as part of our extended family.
