Wednesday night Skip Marley joined award-winning actor Hugh Jackman and veteran news journalist Katie Couric onstage as part of the annual benefit gala for the Harlem Village Academies. The event, held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, New York, featured the headline musicians in performance with students from the HVA’s elementary school.
Skip’s acoustic set included “Redemption Song”, “Lions”, and “One Love”. Iconic soul singer Betty Wright put in a surprise appearance with the HVA children’s chorus for the latter two songs. The audience was both moved and energized by the performance, especially the voices of the children as they joined with Skip’s to proclaim “We are the movement / this generation / you better know who we are!”

Last month’s successful appearances at Coachella and Kaya Fest in California showcased Skip’s organic ability to connect with audiences thru his music. Next up is the HangOut Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama next week May 18-20.
