As New Yorkers prepare for yet another Thanksgiving, the creative folks of Jammins Entertainment family are set to present the classic Reggae Legends and Soul Legends in Concert Series — celebrations of nostalgia and the enduring talent of iconic artists whose work span generations.
These exceptional concerts of historical value will be held at the prestigious Brooklyn Academy of Music – B.A.M., downtown Brooklyn on Friday, November 27 and on Saturday, November 28, 2009. Both shows start at 7:00 p.m.
The show on November 27 will spotlight the consistent ambassadors of reggae — Third World; reggae’s lovers-rock giant — Gregory Isaacs; foundational messengers of reggae — Inner Circle; and the empress of reggae – Marcia Griffiths.
Truly, there are very few professional disc jockeys without an album/CD of these artists; and likewise it would be difficult to find any bona fide lover of reggae who can truthfully say that he/she never heard Gregory Isaacs “Night Nurse” and “Cool Ruler;” Inner Circle’s “Bad Boys” and “Sweat (A La La La La Long);” Third World’s “Try Jah Love” and “96 Degrees;” and Marcia Griffiths’ “Electric Slide” and “I Shall Sing.”
The second show, scheduled for Saturday, November 28, will feature three of soul’s standard-setting artists and groups – The Temptation Review featuring Dennis Edwards; The Original Manhattans featuring Gerald Alston and Blue Lovet; and Rose Royce. These enduring groups hardly need any introduction, given their role in defining, advancing and influencing the quality of R&B and other American genres of music over the last 40-plus years.
It would be equally difficult to find any man or woman above 18 who can truthfully say that he/she never heard The Temptation’s “My Girl” and “Since I Lost My Baby;” The Manhattans’ “Kiss and Say Good Bye” and “It Feels So Good To Be Loved So Bad;” and Rose Royce’s “Car Wash” and “I Wanna Get Next To You.”
According to managing director of Jammins, George Crooks, “This series will feature some of the most distinctive, standard-setting artists alive, as they showcase their expansive repertoire and style to the delight of music lovers in the tri state area.”
And as anyone who has experienced a live performance of either one of the above artists/groups would know, these crooners all have something in common – unquestionable dedication to their craft, which they each demonstrate on every stage graced by the lot.
