After much hard work and lots of prayer, Jamaican born filmmakers, and South Florida residents, Adrian Allen and Ray Balgrove, finally see their dreams come to fruition. Allen directed the feature film, The Heart Of Summer, which is a story by Ray Balgrove and Mark Bridge, and screenplay by Tedric Huff. The Film has been chosen to be screened at this year’s ABFF, the prestigious American Black Film Festival, on June 23, 2013 at the Colony Theater in South Beach, FL as an official lineup of screenings.
The ABFF enters its 17th year, and is in partnership with the Southeast Overtown Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (SEOPW CRA) and City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones will announce their 2013 programming initiatives during the acclaimed festival, which annually draws upwards of three thousand films, television and entertainment industry professionals and celebrities from across the country. The Films Over Miami Showcase, featuring films of Miami’s emerging filmmakers, will take place on Sunday, June 23, 2013, from 10:00am-3pm, hosted by Culturalist, Ingrid B of Bside Entertainment. The showcase will open with a special poetry presentation by this year’s ABFF ambassador, actor Omari Hardwick. The films that will be screened include : Welcome to Miami (Elijah Wells), The Haitian Guantanamo Bay Experience: The Legal Journey (Rachelle Salnave), The Heart of Summer (Adrian Allen), The Adventures of Edson Jeanand Magic City (Malcolm Jones).
The Heart of Summer was filmed in South Florida, and exhibits true talent in front of and behind the lens. The film is presented by iNation Pictures, a subsidiary of Steadyimage Productions, and Driven Networks, a subsidiary of GRB Media Works. The screening is in perfect timing with the celebration of Caribbean-American Heritage Month. “The Heart of Summer” appropriately captures the unique and urban twist on the quintessential love story. It is the inspiring story of a young man’s soulful journey to rediscover love through friends, family, and faith. The film explores this strong bond and its inevitable complications.
“The Heart of Summer” stars critically acclaimed actor, Paul Campbell, as a traditional minded and strong willed father. Also starring local actors Tesh Beckham and Lex Kelly-Meade, It is timeless and appropriate for all ages. Although the audience may walk away from the film drying their eyes, the film will leave viewers with a revitalized feeling of love and family.
