I attended the South Florida Jerk Festival on Sunday. Each year this festival gets bigger and bigger. Unlike many events that go bad as it grows this one has gotten better each year. Why? I think it is the dedication of the organizers to focus on all aspects Jamaican culture which attracts a wider audience. They could have easily turned this into the Jerk Festival Concert as each year there is a show with top artistes. However they have continued to highlight the folk areas of our culture. They had two smaller stages that were between the vendors and alumni stalls dedicated to performances that highlighting Jamaican culture. They also had cricket matches and netball games. Hats off to the Jamaica Awareness team for continuing to highlight Jamaican culture.
