Fort Lauderdale, FL — October 9, 2008 — The Jamaica United Relief Association (JURA) a 25 year old Florida non-profit 501(c)3 Organization, will be hosting in Florida, celebratory events for the Jamaica 2008 Olympic Team during National Heroes Week [October 24th to 26th], in light of their insurmountable performances and victory in China at the recently held Olympics.
We are most proud of our athletes and would like to show our love and appreciation in our own special way. The team, their managers and technical support personnel will be our special guests on October 25th and 26th.
We will be also using the opportunity to showcase Jamaica as the tourist destination of choice and overall to showcase our island and our people in a very positive way.
The Jamaica Schools Alumni Associations of South Florida: including Cornwall College, Dinthill, Jamaica College, Ruseas, VTHS along with Dr. Michael Douglas a member of JURA and a volunteer medical member to the team for over 15 years have accompanied the National teams to the last 3 Olympic Games.
Net proceeds derived from these events will be presented to the team: JAAA and JOA to be used for projects of their choice involving themselves, their schools, community youth programs and for the general enhancement of the sports programs in their respective areas.
On the evening of Saturday, October 25th a Black Tie Reception will be held in their honor at the Grand Ballroom in the City of Sunrise. On Sunday, October 26th The Olympians will attend church services in Miami Gardens and a Family Fun Day in the City of Lauderhill on Sunday afternoon.
The entrance to these venues will be used as collection points in continuation of our food and toy drive for unfortunate families in Haiti and other islands following the recent hurricane devastations.
We have confirmed with numerous Cities, State and Congressional Representatives who will honor and present various accolades and proclamations to the team. Officials and numerous corporate entities have expressed great interest in these events.
Net proceeds derived from these events, will be presented to the teams JAAA and JOA to be utilized for projects/programs of their choice involving themselves, their schools, community youth programs and for general enhancement of the sports programs in their respective areas.
