It is the Anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence and South Florida will once again celebrate at the annual, original style Independence Street Dance for yet another year. The 5th Annual Grace/Western Union Black Gold Green Street Jam will take place on Saturday July 28th, 2012 at a new venue, our “Jamaica Village”, outside the all new Club Vault, 2801 Greene St., Hollywood Florida, 33020. The celebration will take place from 8pm to at least 3am at this new outdoor and indoor venue just west of interstate I95 between Sheridan Street and Stirling road. In recognition of Jamaica’s 50th, we are hosting the event one week earlier than the previous 4 years so as not to conflict with the other big celebrations, and to accommodate all of us who are traveling to Jamaica to participate in those major events

The Grace/Western Union Black Gold Green Street Jam” is an original-style celebration that will bring back the tastes, the sounds, the feel and the atmosphere of being back home in Jamaica during Independence time. The celebration will be in the theme of a street party, with outdoor dancing and singing to Ole-Time music provided by some of South Florida’s very popular DJ’s, DJ Yo Yo, DJ Mark Swaby and DJ Bonnitto. Original style Jamaican food will be available all night, as well as drinks from the full liquor bar, while showcasing our style and culture in a Jamaican festival atmosphere. With our new location being an outdoor/indoor venue, we will be jamming whether it be moonshine or not. Attendees can sing and jump up out in the asphalted driveway area or lounge and chill in the South Beach style club area. We will be projecting images and sceneries, showcasing many of the cultural features from Jamaica over the 50 years since independence, and there will also be sampling of some Jamaican products. The event will be streamed globally via www.IrieTimes.com.

As we are well into celebrating Jamaica’s 50th, the 2012 Street Dance promises to draw an even larger more celebratory crowd than the previous 4 years. People are expected to be returning from other areas such as West and Central Florida as well as Atlanta and Jamaica.
Admission is $15 presold and available at: The Patty Place in North Dade; and in Broward at: Sam’s West Indian Groceries in Miramar; Nutrition Ocean in Pembroke Pines; Rainbow Variety Store in Lauderhill; and Country Walk Take Out in Sunrise. There will be no limits on the presold tickets, and if any tickets left, the admission will be more at the gate. Also only those patrons with presold ticket will have a chance at the prize giveaways at the street dance.

As they have done from the very beginning, the celebration is being supported by our title sponsors Grace Foods and Grace Remittance/Western Union, and for 2012, it is being presented by Victoria Mutual Building Society. The celebration is also being sponsored by the Law Offices of Dahlia A. Walker P.A., South Florida Caribbean News, Irie Times.com and VP Records. Because of these sponsors, the 2012 celebration is on tap to again be a huge success.

The Grace/Western Union Black Gold Green Street Jam is hosted by DJ Yo Yo and DJ Mark Swaby and is produced in part by Trilogy Productions LLC.

With collaborations from the Consulate General, The Honorable Sandra Grant Griffiths JP, the Grace/Western Union Black Gold Green Street Jam is an approved celebration of Jamaica’s 50th in South Florida.
