Digicel Announces Sponsorship Of Honduras National Football Teams

Digicel signs three year deal with FENAFUTH

Digicel, the fastest-growing telecommunications operator  in the Caribbean and new entrant to the Central American market, today announced a major sponsorship deal with the Football Federation for Honduras, FENAFUTH.

Digicel, the main title sponsor of the Digicel Caribbean Championships and the Copa de Naciones Digicel, has further established its ties in CONCACAF football by signing a three year partnership with the aspiring Honduras senior National Men’s football team taking them up until 2011. Digicel also has the first option to extend its agreement.

The agreement sees Digicel becoming the main sponsors for all national representative sides under the Federation’s auspices including the national Women’s team, all underage teams, Futsal representative sides – and even stretching to the national Beach representative team.

Speaking at the launch today, CEO for Digicel Honduras Miguel Garcia, commented, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to sponsor the national football teams of Honduras. With a very strong pedigree in the development of football across the Caribbean, and now Central America, we are looking forward to making a difference in the sport of football – something so many people in Honduras are so passionate about.”

With major sponsorship partnerships in as many as 14 national football federations across the Caribbean and Central America complementing the title sponsorship of the two regional CONCACAF tournaments, Digicel has developed extensive youth development programmes across the Caribbean. These have featured various national team members and international football stars such as former Liverpool and English international John Barnes – as well as former Marseille, Valencia and French international, Jocelyn Angloma.

President Callejas of FENAFUTH commented, “We are very excited to be entering such a progressive partnership with CONCACAF’S biggest football development company, Digicel. We witnessed its promotions at last year’s Copa de Naciones Digicel and, through our friends across the Caribbean and Central America, experienced the impressive football development programmes that are constantly being rolled out. The timing of this partnership is fantastic for us as we enter into the crucial third round of the World Cup qualification process.”

The partnership will see Digicel progress youth development initiatives as well as promotional developments in Honduras and goes to further strengthen the company’s commitment to the people of Honduras as Digicel finalises preparations to launch its bigger better network in the country.
