The Government of Jamaica and Digicel have joined forces to stage the National Sports Gala in honour of the Jamaica Olympic Team and members of the Beijing 2008 delegation. The National Sports Gala, which will be held on Saturday October 4 at the National Stadium, is part of an extensive series of activities spanning the length and breadth of the island.
Digicel, in its continued effort to highlight the talents and achievements of our athletes, sees the National Sports Gala as a fitting tribute in which the nation can participate and honour our young heroes.
The National Sports Gala which begins at 6pm will be preceded by a National Awards Ceremony at 5pm where several athletes will receive national honours from the Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen. National awards will be conferred on Gold Medal Winners. Recommended special awards will be conferred on other Olympians and members of the Jamaican Beijing delegation. The National Sports Gala will be a National Salute to the entire Beijing Contingent of not only athletes but also Coaching Staff and the Official Beijing 2008 Delegation.
The National Sports Gala will also feature some of Jamaica’s top entertainers paying tribute to our national sporting heroes. Beenie Man, Elephant man, Digicel Rising Stars 2008 winner, Taurus Riley, and the I-Threes are just some of the artistes that have been confirmed for this extravaganza.
Digicel sees this effort as further confirmation of its continued initiative to contribute to national development. The National Sports Gala will be held on Saturday October 4 beginning 6pm at the National Stadium in Kingston.
