The St. Kitts & Nevis Football Association (SK&NFA) today said that it is a great honor to have been chosen to host the sixth and final Digicel Kick Start Clinics which take place on Wednesday, June 17th, and Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at the Warner Park Stadium.

According to the General Secretary of the SK&NFA, Stanley Jacobs, the Association feels privileged to have been chosen for the second year to be a part of Digicel’s support for the development of football across the Caribbean.

“We are hoping to have 22 players taking part in the Digicel Kick Start Clinics this year and we believe that it speaks volumes for the talent that we have here in our small country. And when you consider that one of our players was selected for Sunderland last year, our expectations here are very high.”

Speaking about the preparations for the Digicel Kick Start Clinics in Haiti, Jacobs said: “Everything has gone well so far. We, in St. Kitts & Nevis, view the Digicel Kick Start Clinics as a major component towards achieving one of our objectives – which is to create greater exposure on the international scene for our players. More so, the Clinics have come at an opportune time for Caribbean football; a time when the region is fast emerging as a force to be reckoned with in world football.”

On Saturday, June 20th, 2009, the closing ceremony of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics will take place where Head Coach, John Barnes, will announce the eight talented young footballers that stood out from the 150 players that took part in the Clinics. These eight footballers will spend one week training at Sunderland AFC’s Academy of Light.

The Digicel Kick Start Clinics kicked off in Jamaica in early May and on the six-nation trek across the Caribbean, made stops in Barbados, Suriname, Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago and finally St. Kitts & Nevis.

Jacobs expressed thanks to Digicel for the role they have played in the development of football in St. Kitts and the region on a whole. “It is noteworthy that Digicel is also the sponsor of our Super (Premier) League and so the Digicel Kick Start Clinics will be right at home here. We are looking forward to a very successful clinic with a repeat of last year’s selection.”
