Strange Bedfellows Indeed

One of the most curious aspects of American society is the relationship between law enforcement and organized crime. From time to time, troubling stories emerge that indicate an undercurrent connecting prosecutors and the criminals they prosecute.

I’ve read, for example, that a prosecutor who wrought havoc among mob families was suspected of being a member of a Mafia family himself.  It seems that’s how he knew who the gangsters were and how to put them behind bars. Of course, he was only going after members of competing families.

That’s the story, anyway. You come across a lot of strange stiff on the web.

It’s all very hush-hush of course. And I have no evidence to back up my suspicions, But I wonder why more attention doesn’t get paid to this apparent phenomenon. If there’s any truth to the stories, it’s a gravely worrying  blight on this nation..

And  that brings us to questions I have about Trump bedfellow Rudy Giuliani.

Giuliani’s dad served time in Sing Sing.  Here’s what one ABC report said about him:

Harold Giuliani allegedly broke legs, smashed kneecaps [and] crunched noses’ when he served as a ‘muscle’ for a for a loansharking operation in the 1950s, and got in a Brooklyn gunfight in the 1960s.

Rudy’s uncle, Leo D’Avanzo, is also alleged to have been a mobster. .Rudy’s extended family includes  a cousin killed by the FBI and various other suspected mob members.

Yes, yes, I know. That’s Rudy’s father and uncle, and other relatives – but not Rudy himself.

Indeed, Rudy insists his dad taught him to hate the mob. And as New York’s top cop, he waged war on Mafia operations. He is credited with drastically lowering the crime rate in his jurisdiction.

But I can’t help thinking about that other prosecutor who was such a devastating crime fighter but who was reportedly just wiping out the competition.

Of course what do I know? I’m just a nosey web surfer with a suspicious nature.
