In an overwhelming victory at the Jamaica Conference Centre, Tacius Golding High School was crowned Champions of the JCDC Visual Arts ‘Artylympics’, an Olympics-inspired series of art games and creative challenges. The competition was held during the Students’ Art Day Out. This new component of the JCDC Jamaica Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition allowed the students to tap into their creativity and overcome the challenges posed to them, including a mystery portfolio and an Art/ Exhibition Trivia.
The team from Tacius Golding was able to draw on their innovative and artistic ability to stay ahead of their competitors, Herbert Morrison Technical, Seaforth and Oho Rios High Schools. In addition to copping the Championship Trophy, Tacius Golding also won $100,000 for its Art Department courtesy of the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), the main sponsor of the Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition. Over 300 Arts students from Grades 10-12 and their teachers were invited to participate in the various Workshops, Artist Talk and Public Murals during the Art Day Out.
The JCDC through the Visual Art Competition & Exhibition continues to unearth, developed and showcase the creative talent and expression of the people. The award-winning pieces will now form part of a Travelling Showcase.
