Ten culturally aware, intelligent and poised young women will vie for the title of Miss Kingston and St. Andrew Festival Queen 2019 at the competition’s grand coronation on Sunday, June 9 at the Little Theatre in Kingston.
A signature programme of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) Kingston and St. Andrew Office, the grand coronation will be held under the patronage of His Worship the Mayor, Senator, Councillor Delroy Williams, Mayor of Kingston & St. Andrew and will be held under the 2019 Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition’s overarching theme: “Strong Jamaican Woman: Woman of Culture”.
Beginning at 7:00 p.m. tickets are: $800 presold and $1000 at the gate, while children 12 years and under are $500.
The coronation will follow on the heels of the 2019 Miss Kingston & St. Andrew Festival Queen Mayoral Reception and Sashing Ceremony, which was held on Thursday, May 9 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in Kingston, and officially launched the competition.
The Sashing ceremony saw the ten beautiful and talented young ladies being sashed by their respective sponsors. They are: Anna Kay Hudson, Miss Kingston & St. Andrew Municipal Corporation; Paige Dixon, Miss Grace Springtime, Natasia Reid, Miss COK Sodality Co-op Credit Union Ltd; Kerry Ann Powell, Miss Dobby’s Hide Away Bar & Grill;Sashana Russell, Miss Lady’s Restaurant & Catering Services; Georgian Morrison, Miss Promo Biz Marketing & Events Solutions Ltd; Shakira Bennett, Miss FMA Customs Brokers;Natasia Reid, Miss COK Sodality Co-op Credit Union Ltd; Ornella McFarlane, Miss Singram Medical Services; Rasheeda Murphy, Miss Dream Wedding Services and Sadia Blake,Miss P.T.G. Electrical Building Solutions.
In addition to being formally introduced to their potential Queens-to-be, the audience was also entertained by the contestants’ opening performance, a Dub Poem entitled:Level up my purpose, my passion: Woman of Culture.
Entertainment was also provided by the JCDC Performing Arts Speech Competition Gold Medal winner, Rickesha McNuff of the Denham Town Infant school, who captivated the audience with her performance entitled No Discipline; as well as the JCDC Performing Arts Music Competition’s Gold medal winning Alpha Institute Band.
