The 15th Annual African-American Celebration, February 16, 2013, NC

The 15th Annual African-American Celebration will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 3:00 pm – 8:00pm at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Avenue Cary, NC 27511, (919) 469-4069, downtown Cary, NC.

This year’s celebration includes performances by Dub Addis – With soulful melodies embedded in the polyrhythm of Africa, dub Addis hails from the horn of Africa, Ethiopia. Led by Singer-songwriter Dereje Tesfaye, dub Addis has been performing original songs for the last decade. Dub Addis’s songs vary from traditional Ethiopian rhythms to Roots Reggae.

Also appearing is La’Ney West African Dance & Percussion – Artistic Director, Nadirah Rahman, has danced professionally with several companies including internationally renowned Chuck Davis & the African American Dance Ensemble. Musical Director, Adama Dembele Adama Dembele is a master djembéfola (djembe player) from Ivory Coast, West Africa.

The program is free and open to the public.

The celebration includes fun for the whole family with an ethnic food, vendor market and craft activities for children. African American History Month is a community cultural celebration that highlights African-American heritage and family.
