The Artisan Collective Store Opens in Downtown Kingston

Despite living in a digital era, having a physical place to market and sell your products is still important today.  There is nothing like the look, the feel (and sometimes the smell!) that enhances the value of possessing a product. Unfortunately many artisans lack the wherewithal to set up a retail location and reach out to a market that craves their work. This is where the Artisan Store comes in.

The arts nonprofit, Kingston Creative, is on a mission to nurture and amplify the growth of creatives and will officially open the Artisan Collective Store in Downtown Kingston on August 14, 2020. This is not just another store. The Artisan Collective is a zero-commission retail shop managed by the artisans themselves and hopes to reinvent retail for the creative. It is a contemporary, multi-channel marketplace facilitating the curation of the best artisanal lifestyle products our local creatives have to offer. In the Artisan Collective, the creatives have full control over their brands and provide unique in-store experiences where you can meet the Artisan. This store also acts as a consignment pickup and drop off location, event space, and offers convenient delivery options for customers. Kingston Creative provides the affordable space & relevant resources, and the artisans handle the rest.

Kingston Creative has always advocated for the development of a healthy creative ecosystem, which includes investment, training and spaces for creatives to grow viable businesses. Recently Kingston Creative announced the launch of the Kingston Creative Hub which focuses on encouraging cross disciplinary collaboration through an active programme of coworking, workshops, seminars, hackathons, accelerators and fun networking events.

This partnership was made possible through the First 50 Founders of the Creative City; the Urban Development Corporation, iPrint Digital Limited, Sagicor Bank & FLOW.  Creatives have always and will continue to contribute to the growth of the Jamaican economy.  We seek to add even more space for creatives, by creatives, in Downtown Kingston, and in the process, contribute to the transformation of this area.

The soft launch of the store took place on Sunday July 26th, with the official Grand Opening to take place on Friday, August 14, 2020. Over 50 artisans have been confirmed to showcase their work so far and indications are that more will come. For more information about how to be a part of this email [email protected].

Kingston Creative was founded in February 2017, and is a registered charity that is working to empower creatives and catalyze the transformation of Downtown Kingston. Within ten years we aim to develop a vibrant Art District, a thriving Creative Entrepreneur Hub and  promote growth of the creative economy in order to achieve sustainable national development.
