The drum I heard when I was young
Among many elders I thought I knew
Who I thought knew me more than I
Knew myself
As I journey to the unknown
Where the sound of the African
drums were no longer heard,
Visible around me
I began to miss wisdom
Who taught me to stand
Even in the face of adversity
I carry the energy of
The drum that vibrate among me
As I walk, as I stumble, As I stand
As I sing, As I dance, As I cry, As I rise,
The drum soothe my wounds,
Reminds me of my own heartbeat
That I Am Strong.
