The Republican Agenda Looks Un-American to Me

I used to think that the Republican Party represents American Big Business. I was wrong. The Republican Party represents global Big Business. That realization hit me this morning as I pondered the party’s opposition to the desperately needed government loan requested by domestic car manufacturers. Why would the Republicans in Congress and the President (photo below) want to destroy America’s auto industry? The sole reason could not be the fact that foreign car companies have built assembly plants in Republican-friendly states. That is one reason, surely. But it cannot be the only reason. Too much is at stake.

The picture is so complex and so much of it is hidden that I am going to have a hard time explaining what I think is going on. But bear with me. And if you spot any flaws in my reasoning don’t be shy about hitting that “Comments” button. Together we might be able to figure this mess out.

BushWhy would the Bush Administration and Congress so easily commit something like 8 trillion dollars to prop up the financial system yet balk at lending 30 billion dollars to the domestic auto industry? On the surface it makes no sense. But, if you consider the makeup and function of the financial industry based in New York City, a glimmer of light appears. You see, New York City is a global financial center. When Osama Bin Laden sent his zombies to attack the World Trade Center, he wasn’t striking only at America; he was striking at the heart of global commerce.

If you scan the list of really big corporations you won’t find many that are truly American. Those mega-corporations may have headquarters in the U.S., but you can be sure they have owners in many countries. Citi is partly owned by Saudi Arabian prince Alwaleed bin Talal, for example.

Now, here’s a frightening scenario. What if some top Republicans (and others) are working toward a global government in which a privileged elite will reign as princes and princesses, while the mass of the world’s population is subjugated?

Yes, I know. I’m crazy. But how else would you explain the destructive policies of George W. Bush? Is the President simply an imbecile? A demon? A childishly spiteful sociopath intent on laying waste his country in a fit of petulance? None of it seems probable. I suspect a far more powerful motive – the lust for wealth and power.

You will, surely, agree that this administration has enriched the few at the expense of the many. And you can be sure the Bush clan got their share. George W.  just bought a two-million-dollar house (probably for cash), and I promise you the purchase did not make a dent in his vast fortune. Vice President Dick Cheney is even richer. He has several mansions and is building another overlooking the ocean. But where do they stash their loot?

Cheney’s “former” firm, Halliburton, offers some clues. (This company also has links to the Bush family: Halliburton merged with Dresser Industries, a firm for which George Herbert Walker Bush once worked.) Halliburton reaped huge rewards from projects in Iraq. With a network of subsidiaries, subcontractors and sub-subcontractors, they sucked billions from the bloodshed and devastation of that fraudulent war. And where did a lot of the money go? To offshore tax havens.

Then there’s the Carlyle Group, a private corporation with tentacles deep in global finance, arms manufacturing and myriad other international operations. Here’s the mission statement from the company’s Web site:

Our mission is to be the premier global private equity firm, leveraging the insight of Carlyle’s team of investment professionals to generate extraordinary returns across a range of investment choices, while maintaining our good name and the good name of our investors.

And here are a recent news items posted on the site:

HONG KONG – Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today announced its US$50 million investment in Hao Yue Education Group, one of China’s most prominent private higher-education service providers.

Who owns the Carlyle Group? The Bush family and other totem figures in the Republican elite (such as Howard Baker). Who knows where that group stores its vast treasure? You certainly won’t find that information on the Web. Believe me, I’ve tried.

bush carlyleThen there’s the Bush family’s link to the Saudi princes, who are among the world’s richest people. (The elder Bush is pictured with longtime business associate and friend, King Fahd, left). How does that fit into the overall scheme of things?

For one version, see: www.judicialwatch.org/1685.shtml

This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. It would take a book – perhaps several volumes – to trace the intricate pattern of subterfuge woven over the years by the Bush family and other Republican satraps.

But one thing seems clear to me, the survival of the economic and political independence of the United States of America is not on their agenda.
