The 18th Annual Unifest Multi Cultural Festival Kick Off April 20, 2012

On Friday April 20th the Greater Caribbean American Cultural Coalition, the Greater Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lauderdale Lakes will kick off ‘the 18th annual Unifest Caribbean cultural event, set to take place on Sunday May 20th’.  This year’s Unifest event will celebrate the 50th Independence Anniversary of Jamaica and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Douglas Chiropractic and Medical Centers, one of the events premier sponsors, located at 4140 NW 12th Street, Lauderhill will host this special kick-off event with a live broadcast, interviews and appearances with artists and opportunity to win tickets to the event, free refreshment and more.
 
The 18 th Annual Unifest takes place Sunday May 20th, 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Unifest is “Broward County’s oldest Caribbean Cultural Festival held each year at Lauderdale Lakes Vincent Torres Park, 4331 NW 36th Street.  The outdoor festival will bring back the memories of pride around the culture of Independence, “A Total Caribbean Experience,” featuring  two icon of comedy,  carnival costume parade by south Florida Carnival Band Leaders Association, cultural dancers, stilt walkers, cultural corner with face painting, games and story telling for the kids, display of cultural artifacts, domino  and  netball tournaments,  our major  business expo, health fair, immigration corner, with Attorneys from the Caribbean Bar Association who will be available to answer questions and fill-out documents. The Unifest experience also offers an array of delicious Island food and creative arts and craft vendors.
 
The event will conclude with a concert under the stars, featuring:

Reggae Super Star Luciano, Soca Super Star’s Iwer George and Leon Coldero, Black Violin, Code Red Band, Marcia Ball and many, many more.  Hosted by comedian, actor Owen ‘Blaka’ Ellis from Jamaica and Paul Keens – Douglas from Trinidad, MC will be TV anchor/reporter Neki Mohan of ABC’s Channel 10.
 
The 18th annual Unifest  is endorsed by the Consul General of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago as part of the year long  50th independence celebration in the Diaspora and is also the official kick-off to the month of June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month” and the presentation to our Caribbean Heritage Scholarship winner.  Ticket $15 available on-line at www.unifestlive.com, children under 11 free.  For Booths and information call 730-8885 or go to www.unifestlive.com.
