The 44th Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament and 23rd Port Antonio Local Canoe Tournament will be held in Portland from October 20 – 27, 2007.
In 2006, some 33 boats with 140 registered anglers gathered at Port Antonio’s Marina West Harbour to participate in the International Marlin Tournament. Out of the boats from Barbados, USA, Cayman Islands, Haiti, Germany and Jamaica participating in fishing, 20 caught one or more blue marlin. Thirty four (34) endangered Atlantic Blue Marlins were tagged and released alive in keeping with the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) Tag & Release Regulations.
A simultaneously-run local artesian canoe tournament attracted some 35 canoes with 105 fisher-folk drawn from northeastern Jamaica. One canoe was captained by its fisher-woman owner on the canoe called ‘God Bless Girl’.
