Jamaican Wesley Frater Of Tournament Of Champions, Inc Presents The 14th Annual South Florida All-Star Basketball Game, March 13, 2009, Miami, Florida

For the first time in history, Tournament Of Champions, Inc. will host the 14th Annual South Florida All-Star Basketball Game (Miami-Dade vs. Broward) at the AmericanAirlines Arena on Friday, March 13, 2009. The All-Star Game will showcase the elite male and female high-school seniors from Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Tickets are priced at $20.00 each and provide access to all three games. Each paid admission also includes a Miami HEAT game ticket.   The tournament will begin with the Female All-Star Game at 4:00 p.m. and continue with the Men’s Private School Game at 6:00 p.m. and the Men’s Public School Game at 8:00 p.m.
 
“The All-Star players and coaches are the best within their respective sports and thus deserve the best facility and overall experience that we can offer,” said Wesley Frater, President of Tournament of Champions, Inc.
In addition, Mr. Wali Jones, Miami HEAT Community Affairs Liaison and former NBA World Champion of the Philadelphia 76ers, will host the South Florida Athletic Academic Aptitude Enrichment and Human Development Symposium that encompasses both educational and social development. The symposium, based on the platform for the present NBA rookie orientation program, will be held on March 11, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Miami Central Senior High and is closed to the public. The objective of the symposium is to educate and prepare high school student athletes for a smooth and successful grad uation transition and subsequent collegiate matriculation. The topics for the panel discussion include, but are not limited to, Drug Abuse, Time Management Skills, Sexual Harassment Education, Refusal Skills, Media Training and Self-Esteem. All student athletes that are participating in the All-Star Basketball Game will be required to participate in the Symposium.

The NBA alumni participants include Steven Blake, Portland Trail Blazers; Keyon Dooling, New Jersey Nets; Udonis Haslem, Miami HEAT; Tim James, 1999 Miami HEAT number one draft pick, and James Jones, Miami HEAT. The WNBA alumna include Octavia Blue, former Houston Comets; Marie Ferdinand-Harris, Los Angeles Sparks; Gold Medal Olympian Sylvia Fowles, Chicago Sky; Ebony Hoffman, Indiana Fever; and Toccara Williams, formerly of the San Antonio Silver Stars.
