Jamaicans.Com Annual Toy Drive – Christmas Celebration For Children With HIV/AIDS In Jamaica

Hollywood , FL , November 7, 2006 – Jamaicans.com in conjunction with Eye on Jamaica Project, a certified 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is pleased to announce their 4th annual Internet Toy Drive . The goal is to bring joy and toys to at least 100 children at three AIDS Hospices in Jamaica during the holiday season. The three organizations that were selected, are; Matthew 25:40, Dare To Care and Martha’s Place.

“Jamaicans.com is founded on the concept of giving back to Jamaica,” said founder and owner Xavier Murphy, a native Jamaican currently residing in Florida. “Our Annual Toy Drive is a natural extension of our ongoing efforts to help Jamaica and Jamaicans.”

In answering the question ‘Why were these three organizations particularly selected’ Murphy responds passionately “They lovingly care for children living with HIV and AIDS.” Mr. Murphy further explained that these children are regrettably shunned by society and in many cases, their relatives as well. Jamaicans.com hopes that through the efforts of this toy drive, that they will make a tremendous difference in the lives of these children, ultimately changing attitudes in Jamaica.

“We want to instill hope, acceptance and purpose,” said Murphy. “These children should grow up knowing that they have a bright future ahead.”

Ronald Thomas, CEO and President of Eye On Jamaica, emphatically agrees with Murphy, underscoring the importance of nurturing these children against the backdrop of an environment that is slow to embrace them.

“At the end of the day, the children also need a sense of normalcy,” said Thomas. “Toys bring joy to children and we are honored to be apart of this project.”

The drive began on November 1st, 2006 on the Jamaicans.com website and will end November 20th, 2006 . The toys will be transported to Jamaica with the help of Food For the Poor, Inc. who willing jumped at the opportunity to be apart of this highly worthy cause.
