Sandra and I watched part of Trump’s rambling, self-aggrandizing rant on CNN Saturday night, and I was disheartened by the sea of white faces behind him. These people didn’t care what he said, they believed it. They loved it. They loved him. They would vote for him again in a heartbeat.
Is this America today? An incubator of white resurgence?
For that’s what I think politics in America has crystallized into. The rest is just window dressing.
That’s what the “Evangelical Movement” is all about. That and abortion.
That’s what the Second Amendment “debate” is all about. That and the gun manufacturers’ greed.
That’s what the tax ‘cuts” are all about. That and insatiable corporate rapaciousness.
That’s what the assault on welfare, health care and the environment is all about. That and sheer mean spiritedness.
That’s what immigration “reform” is all about. That and that alone.
And as long as Trump stands up for Making America White Again, he can do no wrong in some folks’ eyes. They have Trump’s back no matter what. And they don’t care who knows it.
If you doubt me, read the report that the House Intelligence Committee’s Republican majority just released.
The report proclaims that Trump did not conspire with Russian agents to tamper with America’s 2016 presidential election. Indeed, it even claims that Russians did not hack emails and organize an army of trolls on social media to spread pro-Trump propaganda.
No kidding.
I wish I could find a group photo of the committee’s Republican members to show you (but I can’t). It would be a sea of white faces.
Do these people represent mainstream white America? I doubt it. But we shall soon see. The Midterms are almost here.
